Tongue piercings should have the barbell stepped down in length after approximately two weeks (by this time the swelling will have gone down enough to have a shorter barbell put in to avoid dental damage). Once the barbell has been changed, then you should leave the piercing alone other than normal aftercare for an additional 4 weeks, this will be due to the remaining swelling that will need to ease off over that time period. Changing the jewelry for fun stuff should wait until the piercing is at least 6 weeks old or older to ensure you don't irritate the new yet unseasoned piercing. Be aware that not all body jewelry is the same the there is a lot of junk material out there, usually available in mall boutique stores.

Any professional body piercer will tell you the jewelry should be left in place for a minimum of 3 to 6 months. Here's the reason, changing the jewelry too soon puts unneeded stress on the newly forming tissue in the piercing. This can damage the piercing and prolong the healing time substantially.

There is no real reason to change the jewelry other than vanity, that being the case leave it alone and let it heal with the jewelry that was meant to help heal the piercing. No piercing is considered healed until it's a year old by this time the piercing is seasoned enough that it can handle being changed without causing issues with the piercing. If you really need to change the jewelry, have your piercer do it for you the first time so it's done in a clean manner.

Be aware of junk jewelry. The world is full of it, this stuff can cause serious issues with your piercing. Rule of thumb when buying body piercing jewelry, unless they actually do body piercing at the location you are buying the jewelry from, don't buy it.

Depends on what you are replacing it with and how fast your body heals. The absolute soonest you can replace it is after three weeks, provided you are replacing it with something that does not dangle and you have let it heal properly.

For anything else, or to be on the safe side, the time is six months. It's a long time, but be patient and it's worth it. Then you can replace it with something that dangles, chains, whatever your fancy without worrying about the piercing having to re-heal. Ultimately, it will be good for the overall lifespan of your piercing.

You don't. Preemptive action is the best action, and keeping on a good cleaning schedule is important with a fresh piercing. Clean the piercing at least twice a day with sea salt soaks.

You will clean the piercing right after a hot shower. You will get regular sea salt from a grocery store, and mix about a tea spoon of this into a disposable cup with warm to slightly hot water. The warm water in conjunction with the salt will create an effective astringent that isn't too hard on the skin. You then take the disposable cup and cup it over the pierced area, which in your case will work well. Just hold the cup there and let the water do it's work...about ten minutes will do. Then rinse it thoroughly with water.

You will get build up on the rod, this is fluid that is aiding in the healing of the piercing. If this is being bothersome, take a Q-Tip and soak it in the sea salt solution and then break up the build up with the cotton swab. It is important that you only use one side of the swab to one side of the piercing, this will eliminate any chance of infecting the piercing. Then rinse the area thoroughly.

Aside from this cleaning regiment, wash the piercing at least twice a day with antibacterial soap such as provon, satin, or dial. Don't swim during the healing process as well, this will do horrors to the new piercing.

You can go back to your piercer for a shorter bar whenever the swelling goes down. You can switch it out to your own bars after 2months.Wait until its fully healed to wear acrylic in it.

Well It's usually around 2-4 months, but it varies just so you know. You have to clean it in the correct way, this is very important. Hope this helps.

What size jewelry should you start off with for a tongue piercing?

when you get your tongue pierced, the piercer will put in a long bar to accompany the swelling, as it does swell quite a lot. But after at least 2 weeks, you may change it to a smaller one. Also, dont keep your tongue bar out for too long, as it does heal quite quickly. It may sting at first while you change it, but just suck on some ice cubes or something. Hope that helped.

What should you expect with your tongue piercing How long does it take to heal Etc?

I have my tongue pierced and ive had it done 9 month soon, you should expect a little pinch when the needle goes through your tongue, but if im honest with you I thought it was going to hurt way more than what it actualy did and you should aso expect your tongue to swell up for a few days and that it will hurt later on that night and especially whe you get up the morning that's when I could barely talk properly with the amount of pain in my tongue, also to swallow your balls it always happens to me and it takes about 10 days to heal and when it does you tend to go back to where you got it pierced and they change it to a smaller bar that is what they did with me
