Les Miserables ran for 16 years on Broadway. The show opened on March 12, 1987 at the Broadway Theatre. It then transferred to the Imperial Theatre in October, 1990 in order to make room for the then upcoming musical Miss Saigon (written and composed by the same people that did Les Miserables). Les Miserables remained at the Imperial until it closed on May 18th, 2003.

The show made a return engagement on Broadway three years later, opening at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 9, 2006. The production ran until January 6, 2008.
