New & improved answer:

2mg (a quarter of sub) will only block opiates (from my experience) for about 10-14 hours. I don't know where the previous poster got "2 solid days" from. If you do not take subutex/suboxone on a regular basis and use it as a crutch (to take in between your drug of choice oxys roxis) then you should be able to get effects from opiates after about 10-14 hours. If you want to be safe then go ahead and wait 24 hours. Now on the other hand if you took a full 8mg sub (even if you do not take subs that much) then you would have to wait at least 36 hours.

It all depends on your tolerance and how often you use. If this is a first time suboxone use count on minimum 24 hours. You may still get a buzz after only 12 hours but it will be no where close to the full effect. Suboxone has a half life of 36 hours, so if you have taken 6mg in 36 hours your blood will still have 3 mg left which is still plenty to block opiates. After 72 hours your blood will still contain 1.5 mg of suboxone which still will block opiates. Under 1 mg and your fine. If you have been using suboxone for atleast a week count on minimum 3 days. Bupe is a very powerful drug it has a high affinity on MU receptors.

Not really sure how this works. This response is for anyone who wished to comment.

I have no interest in getting 'high". I have a surgical need and wish to know how to prepare myself for the needed post op narcotic pain meds my Dr tells me I will need for a couple days. I then plan to resujme my suboxone therapy.

I am down to 1 mg/day from 32 mg. The prescribing DR wants me to go into withdrawl before surgery so pain meds will work. How long will that take> 24 hrs, 36, 48? I have read that I will now need to take way more narcotics than usual , becaise of the sUBS, FOR THE PAIN MEDS TO WORK. Any idea on how much the step up would be? Please let me know.

To correctly answer your question with a solid answer (from someone whos been on suboxone for 3 years) id have to say on average it takes 24 full hours for suboxone to get out of your system (that goes along with its blocking agents that are attached to the nalaxone in the suboxone) if you are a user of suboxone and have been taking it for a while then it can take up to 72hrs for the suboxone to totally work its way out of ur system. But to sum up my answer 24hrs is the full wait time til you can get f*cked up again off of just one single does of suboxone.

WOW... its amazing to me how many people either have no clue what ther talking about or just BLATANTLY just lie ......#1 if you were truly on suboxone for three years you would know that the Bupenorphin is what blocks the opiates, not the naloxone. and if you are also on Suboxone for that long it will take considerably longer then 72 hours to feel any kind of high from opiates.....

IM NOT A DOCTOR AND AND IM ONLY REVEALING MY EXPERIENCE AND AM NOT GIVNG ANY MEDICAL ADVICE TO ANYONE....

IF ANY WANTS TO HERE THE LEGITIMATE ANSWER TO THE ORGINAL QUESTION FROM AN ACTUAL USER OF SUBOXONE THEN READ ON...

I know if your like me you would prefer just a plain and simple black and white answer to this, but the bottom line is that there really isn't one...it depends on alot of factors, HOWERVER THERES GOOD NEWS. there are some general rules of thumb that apply to most eveyrone. BUT AT LEAST I DIDNT ACT LIKE THESE HOLY ROLLERS WHO ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS BY CHITHING YOU ABOUT RELAPSING AND TELLING YOU NOT TO TAKE DRUGS INSTEAD OF JUST ASKING THE QUESTION...

as you have prolly found out at nauseum while searching this question, the half life of suboxone is 36 hours, which meant that after 36 hours, 1/2 of the suboxone has left your system leaving the other half in the receptors. so you you took 8mg of sub then in 36 hours you would still have 4mgs ( still more then enough to block opiates) in 72 hours there would be 2mgs left, at this point you may be able to get a little buzz......

In my experience 2mgs is the most suboxone you can have in your sytem if you want to feel any kind of buzz......additionally if you have been on suboxone for a long period time like the original respondent then it will take some time for you to feel the euphoria that your looking for from opiates....

I can speak for myself that i was on 14mgs of Suboxone for 8months, and it took 6 days of being off of suboxone to feel the high i was looking for.

Also when your calculation how much suboxone you have left in your system after the half life, don't forget to include the half life of every dose. so for example. lets say you've been taking 8mgs a day for a week ( which is probably a common enough dose) so on the 7th day you take your last 8mgs and have stopped therefor in the 36hours half of the 8mgs are left, plus 1/16th of the 8mgs you took the first day, 1/14th of the dose you took the 2nd day, 1/12th of hte dose you took on the 3rd day and so and so on....NO NEED TO PULL OUT YOUR CALCULATOR, ILL DO THEM FOR YOU......

the hardest part of the calculations is that you cant discount that every pill you've taken from day one to day 7 is STILL in your system for example..out of the 8mgs you took on day one there is still .5mgs left from that does the pill you took on day 4 still has 2mgs left and so on...... it may sound confusing but all i can ask you to do is trust me ive done the calculations and this is what it comes out to.

LISTED BELOW ARE THE DAYS YOUVE BEEN OFF SUBOXONE AND HOW MANY MGS YOU HAVE LEFT IN YOUR BODY STARTING WITH THE 7DAYS YOU WERE ON IN FOLLWING WITH THE NEXT DAYS YOU WERE OFF IT....HERE GOES

DAY 1 8

DAY 2 16

DAY 3 16

DAY 4 16

DAY 5 24

DAY 6 20

DAY 7 18

DAY 8 STOP USING SUBOXONE

DAY 8 18MGS DO NOT TAKE OPIATES AS THIS MAY CAUSE PRESIP WDS.

DAY 9 9MGS

DAY 10 4.5MGS ..............AT THIS POINT YOU MAY FEEL A SLIGHT BUZZ

DAY 11 4.5MGS

DAY 12 2.25MGS................. AT THIS POINT YOU SHOULD DEF. FEEL A BUZZ

DAY 13 1.125.................. YOUR NOW IN THE CLEAR, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO

DAY 14 1.125 FEEL A STRONG HIGH FROM THIS POINT ON....

DAY 15 0.0675

DAY 16 0.0375 GOOD LUCK

Depending on your tolerance of opiates, 8mg of Suboxone should block opiates for 24 hours, if not more. It also depends on how long you've been taking Suboxone. The longer you take it, the longer it takes for the blocking effect to wear off. It could take anywhere from 48 hours to a week or two for long-term users. "Longterm" meaning at least a week or more.

The way it usually works is, after about 36 hours, you can feel the effects of the opiate a little bit, but you can't get a full-blown opiate high for at least 48 hours. But if you only took 4 mgs of Suboxone, one time, then the time period will probably be somewhat shorter.
