No documentation has been found that Mexicans fought in significant numbers for either side during the Civil War. It's possible that individuals may have, but given the patriotic fever of the time, even this is unlikely. Mexico was embroiled in it's own problems of occupation by French troops with Ferdinand Maximillian appointed emperor with the backing of Mexican monarchists. The situation had been closely watched by Washington. As the Civil War drew to a close, Lincoln ordered large numbers of troops transfered to Texas for occupation duty and as a deterrent to Maximillian.dfhdfhfjdx
