The Chinese estimate that they lost about 15-20 million dead in World War 2. Most of them were civilians, not all deaths directly attributed to Japanese.
2.2 million is the widely accepted military death count figure, as well as some 400,000 Collaborators that defected to the Japanese side.
Estimates vary but about 19.6 million deaths seems to be a consensus figure. That is 3.75 percent of the Chinese population. About 3.75 million of these were military deaths and most deaths were caused by famine and disease.
I don't think anyone knows an accurate number. Estimates are in the 1-5 million range. The Japanese invasion & occupation of China lasted for over ten years, it began before WW2 started. It was not until the Japanese were defeated in WW2 that the Japanese conquest of China ended.
