Eight times. He won the 1992 Best Actor Oscar for his performance in "Scent of a Woman." He previously had received Best Actor nominations for "Serpico" (1973), "The Godfather Part II" (1974), "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975), and "...And Justice for All" (1979).

He received Best Supporting Actor nominations for "The Godfather" (1972), "Dick Tracy" (1990) and "Glengarry Glen Ross" (1992).
