Every president has had siblings or half- siblings.

Franklin Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama had no full-siblings and were the only child of the marriage that produced them.

Roosevelt was the only child of his mother.

Both of the parents of Ford, Clinton and Obama had children other than them.

Franklin Roosevelt was the only child of his mother but not of his father.

Ford, Clinton and Obama were the only children of the marriage that produced them, but their fathers and mothers both had other children from other marriages.

Washington, Madison, Jackson, Polk, and Buchanannever fathered a child. Pierce had three sons but all died as children. McKinley had two daughters but both died as infants. Harding had no children with his wife but fathered an illegitimate daughter and had a step-son from his wife's first marriage.

Washington and Madison each had step-children from their wives' first marriages. Andrew Jackson, adopted two of his wife's nephews. Polk took on a nephew as his ward.

---

1. George Washington, notably, had no biological children, all of his heirs being from Martha's first marriage to Daniel Parke Custis (1711-1757).

4. James Madison had no biological children. He adopted Payne Todd, Dolley Madison's son from her first marriage.

7. Andrew Jackson and his wife had no children of their own, but cared for children of relatives including Jackson's nephew.

11. James Polk and Sarah Polk never had children. (They did have a legal ward, who was the president's nephew.)

15. James Buchanan never married or had children. He did adopt two of his nieces however.

NOTE:

29. Warren G. Harding apparently had a daughter, Elizabeth, by his mistress Nan Britton. His stepson was Marshall DeWolfe, from his wife's first marriage.
