These include personal assistants, secretaries, directors, etc. There is an internet myth that claims the President and First Lady have hired huge numbers of staff, but this is not accurate, and is in fact an exaggeration, probably originating from the political opponents of the Obama administration. Similar claims that First Lady Michelle Obama hired an "unprecedented" number of servants is also a myth: most fact-checking organizations have noted that she actually has about 24 staffers working for her, directly or indirectly. This is the same number her predecessor, Laura Bush had. As for Mr. Obama, a president always has a large staff, whether it is a Democrat or a Republican in office: presidents need Secret Service protection, drivers, chefs, confidential secretaries, policy advisers, communication directors, and a whole host of others who make the daily operation of the White House possible. While an exact count is difficult to obtain, there is no evidence that the number of employees working for Mr. Obama would be considered unusually large.
