How many World War I Veterans are currently living?

World War I Veterans Living/Dead.

Here are some notes of the last veteran(s) from each country alive or dead.

  • As of February 4th 2008 following the death of 108 year old Harry Landis, Frank Buckles is the last American World War I Veteran left. He was born on February 1st 1901 (108)

  • The last Australian veteran who fought in World War I, died on October 17th, 2005. "Evan Allan died late on Monday night at the age of 106, leaving only one living connection with the 'war to end all wars' - Jack Ross, 110 who enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in 1918, but who never saw a shot fired in anger."

  • The last French Veteran Pierre Picault had passed away on November 20th 2009 at the age of 109 years.

  • As of October, 2008, only one Canadian World War I Veteran is alive, which is Jack Babcock who was 108 years old born on July 23rd, 1900.

  • The last New Zealand World War I Veteran, Victor "Bob" Rudd, died on November 20th, 2005 aged 104.

  • With the death of Bill Stone on January 10th, and Netherwood Hughes on April 4th, 2009, there remains only two British World War I Veterans. The last two are 110 year old Harry Patch and 112 year old Henry Allingham.

  • On November 11th 1918 in Britian there was a ceromony remembering World War I exactly 90 years after it ended. Three British World War I Veterans attended, 108 year old Bill Stone who sadly passed, 110 year old Harry Patch, and 112 year old Henry Allingham.

  • The last German Veteran of World War I was Erich Kästner. He had lived to be 108 years old. He had sadly passed on January 1st 2008.

  • The last Italian Veteran was Delfino Borroni, who had lived to be 110 years old and had passed on October 26th, 2008 was the last veteran to have fought on the Alpine Front.
