to get the answer, take the mass you have divide by the molecular mass of the compound which in water's case happens to be 18g.

18g x 1mol/18g = 1 mole or 6.022x1023 molecules of H2O

if you mean demineralized water ( 100% H2O ) then :

molar mass of water is around 18 g/mol so there is 1 mol of water

number of H2O molecules = 6.02 * 10^23 * 1 = 6.02*10^23

in each molecule there is 2 hydrogen atoms so we multiply by 2

number of atoms of hydrogen = 6.02*10^23*2 = 1.24*10^24

Before answering this question, recall two things. 1) We will need to find the molar mass of water. 2) We know that Avogadro's number (6.022 X 1023) is atoms or molecules per mole.

The molar mass of H20: (1.01 X 2) + (16.00) = 18.02 grams/mol

Start with what you're given.

18 g H20 X (1 mol H2O / 18.02 g H2O) X (6.022 X 1023 molecules H2O / 1 mol H2O)

= 6.022 X 1023 molecules of H2O or 6.0 X 1023 if significant figures count in your class

Atomic Mass hydrogen = 1.01

Formula- grams × (6.02 × 1023) / atomic mass = number of atoms

18 grams H × (6.02 × 1023) / 1.01 grams = 107.29 × 1023 atoms of hydrogen

Normal oxygen has atomic mass 16, hydrogen 1, water has 1 oxygen and 2 hydrogen, so the total molecular mass of water is 18. Therefore, we are talking about one mole of water. This mole of water has 6 x 1023 atoms of oxygen, twice as many atoms of hydrogen.

18 grams water (1 mole H2O/18.016 grams)(2 mole H/1 mole H2O)(6.022 X 1023/1 mole H)

= 1.2 X 1024 atoms of hydrogen
