I recommend "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. It is a gripping survival story About a Boy named Brian who must rely on his wits and courage to survive in the wilderness after a plane crash. The book is engaging, well-written, and a classic in the genre of young adult literature.
I read two of his books in fifth grade, and they're generally geared towards kids of that age. I read "Hatchet" and whatever the sequel to that was. Both of them were about survival. A kid, I believe a teenager, is involved in a plane crash in "Hatchet" and the plot is all about how he survives the elements, etc. The second one was similar. I'm pretty sure most of them are about survival related topics.
