First it is important to note the difference between a calorie and a Calorie. By definition a calorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius at one atmosphere pressure. What we commonly call a Calorie (with a big C) is actually a kilocalorie, or 1000 little calories.

Since body temperature is 37.5 degrees Celsius and there are apx 997 grams of water in a liter, we burn about 37,000 calories (37 Calories) for every liter of almost freezing ice water we drink.

If we drink the recommended 8 cups/2 liters of water per day, 74 calories isn't much when compared to a 2000 Calorie a day diet, but over a year that adds up to around 27,000 Calories burned!

None, but...Water itself contains no calories so if you drink water at body temperature, you will neither gain nor lose calories. However, if you drink cold water, your body will burn a small number of calories warming up the water. But how many?First it is important to note the difference between a calorie and a Calorie. The calories are burned not in the drinking, but in your body warming up the water to normal body temperature.

It takes about 30 calories to raise the the temperate of a 1-liter bottle of water from 44 degree to 98.6. So drinking a liter of cold water will require your body to burn at least 30 calories to warm the water up. It is also likely that the metabolic processes for warming the water are not 100% efficient, so the actual number could be significantly higher, so maybe 60 calories would be more accurate.

I have heard even higher estimates, but I've not seen any scientific support for those numbers. In any event, drinking cold water versus warm water would burn a minimum of 30 calories extra per liter.

How much calories in water?

Water has absolutely nothing in it. No fat, no carbohydrates, no sugars, no protein, and certainly no calories. Water is just as its name suggests, water: 2 parts hydrogen, one part oxygen, although with each litre of water you drink (it is said you burn calories as your throat swallows) you burn around 3-4 calories!

Does healthy food help to stop calories?

Yes it does. No caloric intake means no need to burn calories: For example, a glass of water, compared to a glass of soda. Why try to burn off calories that you continue to intake? Why not drink water, and burn off calories you took in some other way, some other day, and just feel better about yourself every day.

What are the benefits of drinking cold water?

One of the main benefits of drinking cold water is that it burns calories. When you drink cold water, your warm body cools off and needs to burn more calories to heat back up again. Therefore, drinking cold water helps burn more calories than drinking room temperature or warm water.
