The answer is that there are 30 chapters in the Quran and there are 114 Surah in the Quran.

Also, there is difference between chapter and a Surah.

Chapter is the one that contains the Surahs and surah is the one that contain the verses from the Quran.

This is very clear

Yes, so chapter here is reference to a mathematical or "Algebraic" type of sectioning of the book (Quran) ..."smart sections" which allows the reader or reciter to start and finish the book in a marked period of time called a month.

The use of chapter follows from how you might think of the word "chop". Therefore 30 even chops to a loaf of bread, if you eat one "chap" a day, you finish the loaf in one month.

I liken this relationship to the naming of a magazine called "Reader's Digest".

So if your last loaf of bread must last your family one month, how many sections would you need? The loaf all by itself is one, right...so after another 29 "chops" with the knife you would end up with 30 "chaps" or sections. Similarly, if you want your family to "digest" the whole of a book that is to be read (Bread) in one month, you will want to eat (read) one chap per day... And Abubaker also makes a great point in that in each section the reader experiences and reads or "recites" messages which were revealed to one man in a unique manner, in that it self-verifies itself, and this occurs 114 times.. by reference English speakers would "think" of these 114 Surahs as complete in themselves...as they contain 7 or more verses (ayat), each of which are in themselves voluminous in meaning, logic, wisdom, and admonition. Thank you Abubaker!
