The bible in Genesis tells us that Leah & Rachel named the children including the children that their handmaid's bore to Jacob. If you will read Genesis, chapters 29 through 35 you will discover why the children were named the way they were.
Jacob and Zilpah (Leah's handmaid) had two children together, Gad and Asher.
