According to recently published data from the US Energy Information Administration there are 1,436 coal burning generators located at 594 individual power plant sites with a combined nameplate generation capacity of 338,723 MW(e).

In 2001 there were 759 surface coal mines in the United States, which produced 745.3 million short tons of coal.
The total number of coal mines in operation in 2002 totaled 1,426, compared to 2,746 a decade prior.
The Black Thunder thermal coal mine, located in the Southern Powder River Basin of Wyoming, opened in 1977 and for many years was the largest single coal operation in the US.
There are at least 600 coal fired power plants in the US, providing 31.2% of U.S. electric capacity (as of 2005).
Power plants fired by coal produce many pollutants (SOx, NOx, radiation, particulate, mercury etc.) the amounts vary by the size and fuel used at the site (not all coal produced the same contaminants). See the Links for data on typical coal plants.
100 mega watts
The most significant resource that a coal fired power station uses is of course coal. Coal is a non renewable natural resource and mining of coal has significant negative effects. In many cases coal is mined in sensitive grassland and wetland habitats - causing significant water pollution. Power stations also rely on large amounts of freshwater in the cooling towers as part of the power production process.
The most recent demographic information indicates that there are 589 active coal power plants in the United States. Coal produces 57 percent of the United States' electric power.

There are none, Because we use coal or gasoline to power our generators.

There are currently 62 commercially operated nuclear power plants and 100 nuclear reactors in the United States. They are located in 31 states with the most being in the state of Illinois.
bla bla bla is the answer
The most common way power plants generate electricity is by burning coal. Some use"green" alternatives like solar power or wind power, but the most common is coal. There's a few out there that use nuclear power to generate electricity, but not that many.
pulp,wood,coal or paper?!?!?
