joe b says : 3 continents 17 contries in the Middle East region Continents are defined as land masses usually made up of a number of countries. When I went to school there were only five recognised continents being; Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Australasia (In order of discovery). America (which included but not limited to the countries of both North and South America-North have U.S.A, Canada, South having Peru, Mexico, Bolivia etc etc). Europe which inclued but not limited to G.B., France, Italy, Greece etc etc. Asia which included but not limited to the Middle East Region of U.A.E., Qatar, etc, India, Pakistan, Japan, China etc. Africa which included but not limited to the countries of Egypt, Zambia, Tanganika, Union of South Africa etc, etc. Australasia which includes but not limited to the countries of Australia (not a continent in itself but an island), New Zealand etc. Now having said this, Antarctica was somehow always left out. It is technically a continent but is not made up of countries and in fact is not really 'owned' by anyone. There are no natural or indiginous persons living there nor ever having lived there. However, some countries believe that they 'own' parts of Antartica where they have weather and research stations. Civilized nations recognize these areas more like 'Embassies'. Today, many schools are teaching students that there are 7 continents. The name 'Oceana' has sprung up from somewhere and appears to include various South Pacific islands and, according to some teachers, Australia is somehow part of this Oceana. America has somehow been divided into two seperate continents.
It is on the Middle East. It is inside the Fertile Crescent.
The Middle Eastis a cluster of countries in the Easter Hemisphere that sits where the three continents of Africa, Europe and Asia "Opinions vary as to what countries make up the modern definition of the Middle East. Historically, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been long associated with the Middle East, but in recent years, some sources now consider them to be more closely aligned with Europe based on their modern economic and political trends. We have moved in that direction, and the same applies for the island country of Cyprus, as it does for Georgia, the former Russian republic. The African country of Egypt is still thought (by some) to be in the Middle East, as well as the northern African countries that border the Mediterranean Sea." -WorldAtlas.comClick on the link at the bottom of page for more information and pictures

Answer 1Cyprus can be a part of the Middle East or a part of Europe depending on the definitions of any one person examining the situation. Cyprus is a member of the European Union and has a majority Greek population, which would seem to make it a European country. However it is entirely south of Turkey and north of Egypt, which would make it geographically a Middle Eastern country and therefore the UN recognizes it as part of the Asia-Pacific Region as opposed to the Western European and Others Group.Answer 2Yes. Cyprus is part of the Middle East. It is located directly south of Turkey and as such, has never been seen as a European Country except as concerns its status in the European Union. Most Ancient artwork from Cyprus shows much stronger Persian and Akkadian influences than Greek influences (which come later but are never fully copied).
The Middle East itself is located fully in Asia. However, the Greater Middle East includes the Middleast and North Africa, as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Caucus States of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan may also be included in this region, and Georgia and Azerbaijan are transcontinental countries of Europe and Asia. So you could say the Middle East includes Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Africa an Europe, the "Middle East" sits on its own tectonic plateThe closest Africa gets to the middle east is Egypt but the closest Europe gets is Turkey...
If you specifically called the Middle East as the "Middle East", then it is likely that you live in an Anglophone country (otherwise, you might call it le Moyen Orient, or As-Sharaq Al-Awsat, or el Medio Oriente, etc.). If you live in the Middle East, there are strong odds that you live in either Egypt, Turkey, or Iran. The other countries cumulatively make up less than 25% of Middle East population.
