Depends on the type of degree. I have a MS in criminal justice and my program was 48 credits. Different degrees have different program lengths, therefore different amount of credits are needed.

The number of credits required depends on the specific program of study. The master's degree can run anywhere from 30 credits up depending on the specific program. Once you have decided which master's you would like to pursue, you can then inquire about the number of credits particular to that program. That being said, you do not choose a master's program because of the number of credits, but because it will lead to your overall career goals and objectives.

The master's can range between approximately 30 and 60 credits depending on the specific program of study. For example, a liberal arts master's can be 30 credits, some in education 33, in business 36 to 46, school psychology 60 credits plus, etc. It just depends on the program of study.

That will vary by university and degree desired, but "30 hours beyond the bachelors" is a fairly common figure.
