There are five full weeks of Lent = 35 days, plus four days (Ash Wednesday through Saturday) = 39, plus Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of Holy Week = 44. Lent ends with Evening Prayer on Holy Thursday and the shortest Liturgical Season of the year begins: the Easter Triddum.
