The American Kennel club recognises around 150 breeds of dog. There are, of course, other breeds bred specifically for the conditions of particular countries around the world, so there are more than 150 breeds in total. On top of that, there are another three dozen or so species within the dog family (canidae), such as the dingo and various wolves.
