the actor Dermot Morgan who played father ted died march 1998 shortly before the third and final series of father ted was to air on channel 4.dermot and the series writers had already decided that the third series was to be the last and it turned out to be the best series of all three.dermots death was a tragic loss,he had been working on a new comedy as he did not want to become typecast as just father ted.im sure dermot would have given us lots more laughs had his life not been so tragically cut short.it would also have been interesting to see that after all this time whether they would have been tempted to bring father ted back!unfortunatly we will never know.one things for sure, father ted is and will remain a classic comedy and something that can be enjoyed over and over again.
