10 according to the Los Angeles Times dated 7/28,2004. This number includes the recently acknowledged 1939 championship and the 2003 championship. I am not yet counting the 2004 championship - Fight On.

Not sure what their total is but the NCAA doesnt recognize the 2003 championship. That is officially given to LSU because they won the BCS title game and like it or not the BCS determines the National Champion now. So all of this talk of a 3-peat is really nonsense. They are going for an offical repeat.

USC was the ONLY true national champions in 2003. They were #1 in both the AP and coaches poll at the end of the regular season and then went on to win their bowl game. Every other time in history this has happened both polls recognized the team in question as the national champions. The NCAA does not officially recognize any national champion (never has - look it up).

Actually the coache's poll named lsu #1 in 2003. In history this would have been called a split national championship, now we have the bcs so according to the ncaa lsu was the 03 national champs.
