Haploid cells have half the number of chromosomes as diploid (normal, somatic) cells. For example - a human somatic cell has 46 chromosomes, so a haploid cell would have 23 chromosomes.
24 haploid. Egg has 24 haploid too. So when they combine to turn into a zygote, the zygote has 48 diploid. I learned this at school. And it is in a textbook.
Our body is made up of so many cells. Each cell divides and redivides by mitosis or meiosis!!we can't count them!! Haploid cells are those which contains only 1 set of chromosomes (haploid number= n)
