they make 12 hogans each day
Yes. Hogans are sacred to the Navajo people.
hogans
Hogans are warm in the winter and cool in the summer because of the thermal mass of the logs and earth on top. Hogans face east to greet the dawn each day. Hogans are described in the creation stories and have religious and philosophical meaning. Many Navajo ceremonies take place in hogans.
they have used stone bricks to make their houses sturdy as well as many other cultures did and still do as well as them but we thinkthat they used the wheat too to make their houses and calledthem hogans
The Navajos have many interesting qualities. They live on such a beautiful reservation and have such a deep love for nature. They make really good food such as Fry bread which is just bread fried in a cast iron skillet. They also make beef and potatoes basically everything you and i eat. As you may know, Navajos served in world was II which i think is amazing.. I know this because I am Navajo but I live in Ohio. However i have been to the Reservation and Pow Wows too. Its cool

lots! being a Navajo i would know!:) we live like normal people..... but of course like many cultures we are different. what we eat and how we eat and the way we live. we eat sheep, corn, frybread, and many natural things. (we believe in being one with nature) we mostly eat with the frybread and pray to the sun gods when we wake up in the mornings thanking him for the weather and our neat home. we live in hogans that we made ourselves and use natural things to keep our body clean. many native Americans still live in these ways. many still of the older generation. they are big believers of the old teachings while the younger generation is moving on with time. :)
The Apache are a group of related people but the live in different places, climates, ways and their languages are different. The Navajo are related to them. Some Apache did make hogans. They also made kowa and wikiups and the Plains and Lipan Apache used tipis. In general, a hogan is a much more permanent home and takes a lot of time a materials to build. The thick walls are good for keeping warm in the high altitude winter and keeping cool in the summer. The Navajo are people who keep sheep and goats and raise corn, squash and beans. They mostly live at between 5000 and 8000 feet in elevation. Hogans are useful in this climate and because they stayed near their fiends except when moving herds to higher pasture. Also hogans have important religious significance. Many Apache bands lived a more mobile lifestyle so other types of houses were more useful.
Dome shaped houses are called Hogans. There are many different styles, but the one feature is the entrance must always face East, toward the rising sun.
