How many lanes are there in a swimming race?

I am a competitive swimmer and you can hve6,8 or 10 lanes. BAGCATs usuallly have 8 . Commonwealth and Olympic 8.

Older pools are generally 6 lanes and almost all new pools have 8. Long course (50 M) pools are usually 25 yards wide and have 8 lanes for long course and 20 for short course but all 20 are never used in a race

8 lanes simple as that though there is 10 lane pools though lanes 0 and 9 are never used
