Use caution. The following answers are just opinions. In truth, it is not possible to count the words of any language, because there is no universal definition of what a word is. Most languages have between 40,000 and 160,000 words.

Answer

There are about 150,000 words in the Russianlanguage. Many people think there are more but this is due to conjugation of verbs and declension of nouns. These are not different words but merely grammatical changes, not new words.

There are about 1,000,000 words in the Englishlanguage. But we know that about 530,000 of those are names of things that man makes like semiconductor, resistor etc. So there are about 470,000 words that are in an unabridged dictionary.

Interestingly no matter what language we speak only 100 words make up about half of daily speech. The average person uses only about 2,000 words, and that is all it takes to be fluent in any language.

Answer:

Philologists have estimated that the language today may contain as many as 350,000 to 500,000 words. [Note: Philologists are not actual scientists. They are hobbyists. Linguists are the actual scientists of language, and most would not agree with this statement.]

It's not possible to count the words in any language, because there is no universal definition of what a word is. But most estimates place the number between 40,000 and 160,000words (which is the same range for almost all other languages).

Note: English is an exception. It has the largest number of words of any language in the world, estimated at 170,000 to 250,000 words. No language has more words than English.
