An antibody has four levels of protein structure: primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary

1) Primary structure

The primary structure is the linear sequence of amino acids comprising each polypeptide. The primary structure determines the structure, function and protein folding the antibody

2) Secondary structure

Secondary structure involves hydrogen bonding, which in the case of antibodies forms a beta pleated sheet arrangement. Additionally, two beta sheets form a beta barrel.

3) Tertiary structure

Tertiary structure invovles electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding and covalent disulfide bridges.

Antibodies consist of numerous beta barrels. These are known as domains. Each domain is a region within the native tertiary structure that can potentially exist independent of the protein

4) Quaternary structure

Antibodies consist of four polypeptides (or four chains: two heavy and two light). These arrange themselves to form a Y shape. The interaction between these polypeptides gives rise to the quaternary structure.

How fatal is a hemoglobin level of 4.7?

A hemoglobin level of 4.7 is dangerously low and if not properly treated could become fatal. Normally, women should have a hemoglobin level of 12 or more, men 13 or more. Generally, hospitals will begin emergency blood transfusions when the hemoglobin level drops below 7 or 8.
