How many license plates does your car need? |
Actually, in Illinois, you need both front and back, but most cops don't write people for it. I can't remember the last time I did and I've been a cop for 7 years. Just put the second one on regardless of what state you're in. Is it that big of a deal?
Answer
That depends on your city and state. I live in Chicago, where you need both plates (front and back). In the rest of Illinois you only need one (back). Your local Department of Motor Vehicles should know.
there are 2 plates required in the state

Answer
This is a very good question. The simple answer is "If your state DMV gives you two, you are required to use them both. If they only issue one plate, it goes on the back." With the use of photo radar, etc., it is even more important to use both plates. That is why the police are a little picky on that item.
Answer
License plates have nothing to do with reflecting radar. But anyways it varies from state to state.

Answer
In Missouri you need two plates on a passenger vehicle. On Pickups that are registered as over 18,000 pounds, then you only need one on the front. In Missouri you will get a ticket if you don't have a front license plate. Also, if you are from another state and don't have the required number of plates affixed to your vehicle......you will not get a ticket.
Answer
I saw the comment regarding radar. Front license plates reflect more of the radar signal that any other part of the car. It is what the police aim for.
Answer
IN Florida only one is required on the back. When you register your car you are only given one with the county listed at the bottom of the plate, to which county it was registered.
Answer
Photo radar means just that. They include a front photo of the vehicle which needs to show a tag.
