They started with four in 1981, Vince Clarke, Dave Gahan, Andy Fletcher and Martin Gore.

Then Vince left the band to be replaced with Alan Wilder shortly after their first album was released.


Alan then left in 1995, which left three members of the band, which remains the case today.
