Remember the prefix will tell you everything when working with metric units. It doesn't matter if it's liters, meters, or grams; the prefixes are all the same. The prefix "cent-" means 100, as in 100 years in a century or 100 cents in a dollar. Using the prefix you know that a centimeter is 1/100 of a meter so there are 100 centimeters in a meter. The same goes for the other prefixes and units too.

Milli=1000 as in 1000 years in a millenium

Deci=10 as in 10 years in a decade
