The US has used for executions:
- Hanging
- Firing Squad
- Gas Chamber
- Electrocution
- Lethal Injection
There is also vague reference to "Keel Hauling" and "Facing Bess" in the early days of the US with relation to military executions. Keel Hauling is the practice in the Navy of tying the feet of the convicted and dragging him under the ship, across the barnacles attached to it; it essentially skins the victim alive and drowns him. Facing Bess is said to have been the punishment in artillery and cannon units for treason or desertion in the face of the enemy. The convicted soldier is strapped over the mouth of the gun (cannon) and the weapon is fired.
