How many miracles does the bible list? In: College Degrees |
[Edit] |
Answer
The exact number of miracles in the Bible is probably indeterminable. Certain events could be seen as either natural or supernatural. God handed the Israelites over to their enemies, for instance. Was this a miracle, or simply the natural unfolding of events predetermined by God? Was Jonah being swallowed by the "great fish" a miracle? Even if one were to count all of the supposed miracles specifically recorded in the Bible, it is doubtless that there would ever be a consensus.
Besides this, however, John lists 8 occurrences that are specifically called "signs":
- water to wine - healing of the nobleman's son - healing of the lame man - feeding of the 5000 - walking on water - healing of the man born blind - raising of Lazarus - miraculous catch of fish
Scripture also states that many more miracles were performed, by Christ and His disciples, that were not recorded. Even John's 8 "signs" do not include what is considered to be the greatest miracle and confirmation of Christ--the resurrection.
