Luke's Gospel does not really say how pregnant Mary was when she travelled from Nazareth to Bethlehem, but logic suggests that she must have been close to full term. Otherwise, once they had been counted for the census, they would have returned quickly to Nazareth in order to have the baby in the comfort and security of their home. Even more so, since there was no room in the inn and they could not get suitable accommodation.
Matthew's Gospel suggests that their home was actually in Bethlehem, so the couple would not have had to travel during her pregnancy.
