How many ounces are in a cup if it is a dry ingredient not liquid?

[Edit]

Answer

It depends, a cup of rice crispies is going to weigh a lot less than a cup of rice.

If you are in UK and have a US recipe, a cup is measured as 8oz. Measure it in a glass jug.

A cup is a measure of volume, not of weight. Bakers usually use weight to insure a consistant product particularly when using flour, since it can vary in moisture content and grind.
