According to the latest report there are a total of 239 pandas in captivity, 128 in Wolong, a further 67 in Chengdu and 27 who live out of the country. It is estimated that there are about 1,590 pandas still living in the world. A study in 2006 using DNA analysis estimated the number of wild pandas to be more in the region of 2,000 to 3,000 and although reports show number may be rising, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) does not believe it is enough to remove pandas from the endangered animal list.

Answer

The Giant Panda is a conservation reliant endangered species.[4] A 2007 report shows 239 Giant Pandas living in captivity inside China and another 27 outside the country.[8] Wild population estimates vary; one estimate shows that there are about 1,590 individuals living in the wild,[8] while a 2006 study via DNA analysis estimated that this figure could be as high as 2,000 to 3,000.[9] Some reports also show that the number of Giant Pandas in the wild is on the rise.[10][11] However, the IUCN does not believe there is enough certainty yet to reclassify the species from Endangered to Vulnerable.[1]

Only about 1000 Giant Pandas are left.

Answer

Most of the bears that remain in the wild live in a chain of fourteen reserves that were established by the Chinese government. Today, it is estimated that only 700 pandas remain in the wild. There are another 200 of the bears in zoos (mostly in China). Although they were once more widespread, today they are limited to six small areas in Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanzi provinces, totaling only 14,000 square kilometers (5,400 square miles).

Answer

The Giant Panda population was thought to be about 1,600 - 2,000. But new DNA survey techniques have helped locate and identify where the population numbers of Giant Pandas in the wild had been underestimated. The new reports indicated there were 2,000 to 2,500 Giant Pandas living in the wild. The Giant Panda is listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, "IUCN" Red list as "endangered" with a population trend "decreasing". For more details, please see sites listed below.
The current estimate is that there are about 1,600 panda bears left in the wild.

They aree quickly dieing out because of deforestation, they have a low mating rate, the bamboo they eat is getting harder and harder for them to find, and also they are very picky about mating so they dont mate as often as other animals.

There are the average about 1,000 pandas in the central of China in 2008 - 2009

The Giant Panda's mountainous habitat and shy behavior makes accurate surveys in the wild difficult at best. But with the help of a new DNA analysis, used in the 2006 studies, the numbers of wild Giant Panda were estimated from 2,000 to 3,000. This is a large difference from the previous estimates of 1,590 living in the wild. There are also 239 living in captivity in China, and 27 living in captivity outside of China. These are recent tests, and studies. Many are with holding judgment until they can be confirmed by more standard methods. For more details, please see sites listed below.
