The world's oldest hovercraft passenger company, Hovertravel, use British Hovercraft AP1-88 on their scheduled service from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight (England), which seat 101 passengers.
The largest passenger hovercraft was the SR.N4, used on routes that included the cross-channel Dover-Calais, seated 254 passengers.

When the first SRN.4 hovercraft came out in 1968 and 1969 they could carry 250 passengers and 30 cars. In 1972/73 Hoverlloyd had their 3 SRN.4s widened to carry 280 passengers and 36 cars (165 tons). It became the SRN.4 Mk.2 (200 tons). In 1977 their 4th SRN.4 was build as a Mk.2. Also in the year Seaspeed stretched the first of their 2 hovercraft by 55-ft. and widened it so that it could carry 424 passengers and 55 cars to become the Mk.3 (320 tons).
