>3,519,500,651,162 that's how many

Actually about 1/10th of that. Let see by using an example...

The day before 9/11/2001, Donald Rumsfeld announced that

$2.3 Trillion in transactions cannot be accounted for.

The Pentagon wing with the Accounting records was destroyed on 9/11.

So we will never know where the money went.

How can we get a feel for how much $2.3 Trillion is?

The Moon is an average of 384,403 km from Earth.

That is 384,403,000 meters (384 million meters)

That is 384,403,000,000 millimeters (384 billion)

If the thickness of a US Dollar is about 1 millimeter,

that means you could stack 384 billion dollars to the Moon.

$2.3 trillion or $2,3000,000,000,000 would stack dollar bills

2.3 trillion / $384 billion = 6 times to the Moon

As many times as NASA landed on the moon. (Yes they did.)

The average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 km. But the moon rotates around the Earth and the distance always varies.

Since I am not from America, I don't know exactly the dimensions of a penny. (If you actually referring to the American penny)

It also matters the geometric placement of the coins: do you put them on top of each other on the narrow side (like books on top of each other), or you place the circles to be tangent ?

But considering that the penny is 1mm on his side, and you build a "tower" of those until you reach the moon, then you will need 384,403,000,000 pennies.

Good luck with the work ! (and raising the money)

----------------------------------

20 pennies stacked in one inch. Average of 238,857 miles to moon. 63,360 inches in a mile. This equals 302,679,590,400 American pennies stacked up to reach moon.

About 3.4 trillion dollar bills (3,400 billion dollars).

Taking the average distance from the center of the Earth to the center of the Moon (about 384,400 km), and subtracting the two radii (6378 km, 1737 km), you get an average lunar surface to Earth surface distance (equator, MSL) of about 376,385 km.

The thickness of a US dollar bill when printed is 0.010922 cm (about 0.11 mm). One thousand (1000) of these would be a stack 11 cm or 4.33 inches high. There are about 232 to 233 bills per inch.

Neglecting the compression that would occur at the bottom (ends) of the stack, and keeping them pressed tightly together when at zero gravity, the stack would be 376,385,000 m / 0.00010922 m or 3,446,117,927,000 bills ($3.4 trillion).

We can check this using the English measurements: 233,875 miles and 233 bills per inch.

3,446,117,927,000 bills = 14,790,206,000 inches = 1,232,517,000 feet = 233,430 miles which is only off by 2/10 of a percent (still, that's $6.2 billion we can pocket from the stack).

The surface area of the earth is calculated as

A = 4(pi) x (radius) squared

The earth radius is 3951 miles = 250,335,360 inches

A = 781.1 quintillion inches squared

The surface area of a dollar is 16.0254 inch squared

Divide 781quintillion by 16.0254 = about 49.1 quintillion dollars, or precisely,

49,116,245,050,000,000 dollars
