Yes, I do agree with most of that statement. I want to point out how they got that way. Their parents and guardians that have either "better things to do with their time" or the kids just are not a priority. Today's teens are spoiled because of lack of parental skills. When you're handed everything instead of being made to earn it, even from a young age, you come to expect everything to be given. Parents don't monitor schooling like they used to either. They now think it's the teachers' job to teach manners aside from academics. We have to stand together now to let the children of this world know what the acts of pride, integrity, work ethic and school performance mean to everyone's future. I hear far too often of "Well, both of the parents have to work" Well boo hoo, maybe people need to start living within their means instead of keeping up with the Jones'.

Answer:Woohoo! Bless the first poster! They are right on! My husband and I were just having this discussion last night. We live in British Columbia, Canada and we had an unexpected large snowfall and not one teen has come to the door to ask if they can shovel our driveway or sidewalk! There is good money in it. My husband was working O/T the other night and since we are in our 60s I can no longer handle the old shovel on ice and snow. So, just out of curiosity as the kids were getting out of school just kitty-corner from us I went down to the bottom of the driveway and waited for a good sturdy looking young man to come by. Several did and each one I asked if they would clean off our driveway and sidewalk. Each one asked, "How much?" I said, "$20." They kept walking! Now can you imagine that! So, guess mommy and daddy will give them 3 times that amount for sitting their large butts in front of a computer or simply laying around. $20 for the small driveway and area of sidewalk we have was more than generous.

ALL teens are not lazy, but the majority are. There are still some parents out there that have a modicum of common sense and high values, but sorry to say for the most part since both parents started to work the kids seem to be at the bottom of the list. Often parents will "buy things" for their kids mainly out of guilt. You can't beat quality time, concern and taking the time out to see if your kids have problems or if they are hurting emotionally.

I grew up in the 50's and we had to mow lawns and shovel snow for our good neighbors for nothing! After we finished with our neighbors then we could charge, but our parents told us if we took this chore up we'd better do a good job and that my brother and I did. We babysat, I worked as a Candy Striper in a hospital in my mid teens (they don't have them anymore.) We didn't get handed wads of money or a credit card. Our parents were on us like white on rice! We got spanked if we were bad, and loved when we were good and we have become solid citizens.

I find that too many teens come home to an empty house, grab a frozen pizza out of the freezer, throw it in the microwave (gee, how hard is that) and then sit in front of the computer or the TV or listen to the latest rock band. When my brother and I came home we had chores to do! After the chores were done then we could play. Doctors are now wondering why there are so many over-weight teens. Gee, I guess so!

There are too many choices out there for teens today. It's not their fault, it's the fault of the parents! Parents should learn to live within their means and do without like their own parents had to do once they have decided to have children. Parents are "guardians" of children and meant to teach them right from wrong, to nurture them and to teach them good values.

It says much about a person who makes statements about an entire culture, race, gender, and so forth based on their experience with a few such individuals.

It seems that if you want something done by a lazy teen, you have to take away the most precious thing in their life. We are currently going through an ordeal on us trying to get our son to get a job, so when he gets out on his own he will have some money saved up and he will know how to take care of himself financially. As of right now he thinks groceries, cable, internet, and the phone service is all free. Boy is he in for a wake up call. We have go tired of all the excuses he throws at us that you know some teens can think of some good ones. Anyway, the only thing he seems to care about is his girlfriend. So we have to show that tough Love in which they will be forever grateful later in life. So now he is not allowed to talk to her at all times of the day. And they are not allowed to see each other until he gets a job. Strict, Maybe, but sometimes in order to get the point across you have to be. Well, hopefully it will help him grow into a man instead of a little boy that is always hiding in his room. I hope my story shed's some light on your question.
