Water bodies have in general, an ability to recouperate from environmental damage, if the damage is not too severe. On the man side- It cost them about 4 billion dollars to fix it. It cost some peoples lives (I think). It costed tonnes of money to clean a little bit of it up. On the nature side- It made a lot of species be put at risk. It made some species die from the oil getting into their systems.
