Frankie Pytlak died May 8, 1977, in Buffalo, NY, USA.
I would have to say the most massive blizzard to ever strike the US was the blizzard of 1977. I live in Buffalo, NY. I was 8 1/2, and I can remember drifts of snow coming down roofs to the ground. Cars buried, and many people died as they froze to death in their cars. Some families in rural areas were literally snowbound/trapped in their homes. Even The National Guard had to come here and instill order. It was very bad. It will never quite happen like that again. It was also one of the coldest winters ever kept on record. The Great Lakes were just about already frozen over by the beginning of January. We even had measurable snow for Halloween the previous year in 1976. Yes the blizzard of 1977, it struck on Jan 28th, and it lasted for about 1 whole week. Schools, offices, and most organizations were shut down for a while. At one point during the storm Buffalo endured 80 plus mile an hour winds with relentless whiteouts that lasted for days!
