How many people do you meet from trying online dating that are actually the way they say they are?In: Online Dating |

Not many
think of it this way, if you had the chance to reinvent yourself and no one would know the difference, would you be completely honest? Some guys might be only lying a little, or exaggerating, but total honesty should not be expected and you do need to be very careful.
Answer
It is hard to tell by the numbers. Most of the guys I met were generally what they said they were--looks and occupation. I kept some of them as friends--we liked one another but not THAT way. However on the other side, many of the men I met said they had met women who did not look at all like their profile. It takes time and honesty to write a good profile that is truly reflective of who you are. Someone will like you just the way you are. Post a nice picture of yourself (I used a church picture). When you communicate with someone, there are lots of hints in the way they write (positive outlook, humor, concern about me, etc.) that you can pick up on. Phone calls before you meet also give you hints. One thing that I avoided was lots of sexual innuendo and discussion. Nevertheless, still meet in neutral places with lots of people around and let someone know where you are going and when you will be back. Go forth and be hopeful.
