With the exception of one woman with a preference for Listerine, this writer has never met anyone who preferred alternatives to booze, and he has known and worked with a lot of alcoholics. However, it is safe to say that quite a few people drink cough syrup and similar things from time to time.
Some people who are in denial about needing a drink will drink tonics and OTC remedies. How many, however, is impossible to know.
