If the number of unemployed is 12.1 million and the % unemployed is 7.8%, then the number employable is around 155.1 million people assuming that 100% could be working. Of course the 12.1 million likely don't include those that have given up on searching for a job. So maybe the real number of those that could be employed is likely closer to 165 million.
Some believe that there will always be a few percent that are unemployed that likely never be employed for various reasons - moving, illness, lacking mental capacity, lacking skill levels, unable to pass drug tests, and the list goes on. The lowest unemployment rate ever recorded was around 2.5% in mid-1953. More typical levels are in the 4-5% range.
Say the 4% level of unemployment is probably a best guess -- then the number employable is about 158.4 million.
