The weight of any soil will depend on how saturated it is with water. A rule of thumb is that a cubic foot of saturated loamy soil weighs about 20 pounds. Saturated clay would be heavier because it is denser than loam.

According to the 1980 edition of Architectural Graphics Standards, clay that is damp and plastic (moldable) weighs 110 lbs/sq. ft. while packed earthen mud weighs 115 and wet sand and gravel weighs 120 lbs/sq. ft.

I found this answer on a forum online. I don't know who Reade is,

but the variety of answers seemed very knowledeable.

I have data from Reade on the following types of soil.

Earth, loam, dry, excavated - 78 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, moist, excavated - 90 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, wet, excavated - 100 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, dense - 125 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, soft loose mud - 108 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, packed - 95 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, Fullers, raw - 42 pounds/cubic foot

Soils vary in weight. On average, soil "as is" (including its small air spaces and its water content) will weigh around 70 to 85 pounds per cubic foot. My research assures me that this is correct, despite the fact that, based on my actual experience in handling bulk soil, those figures seem counterintuitively high...

1.5 cubic feet of soil is how many pounds?

The weight of soil can vary depending on its composition and moisture content. However, as a general guideline, the average weight of dry soil is approximately 75 pounds per cubic foot. Therefore, to calculate the weight of 1.5 cubic feet of soil, you can multiply the weight per cubic foot (75 pounds) by the volume (1.5 cubic feet): Weight = Volume × Weight per cubic foot Weight = 1.5 cubic feet × 75 pounds per cubic foot Weight = 112.5 pounds So, approximately 1.5 cubic feet of soil would weigh around 112.5 pounds. Keep in mind that this is an average estimation and the actual weight can vary depending on the specific characteristics of the soil.

How many cubic feet are in 1 ton of soil?

At 100 pounds per cubic foot, that is 20 cubic feet per ton = 0.57 cubic meters

How many pounds of vermiculite in a cubic foot?

It depends on how it is packed and grain size - average is about 7 pounds per cubic foot - pretty light stuff

How many bags of top soil weighing forty pounds each would it take to make one cubic yard of top soil?

A good average density for topsoil is 100 pounds per cubic foot. There are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard, and so one cubic yard weighs around 2,700 pounds.2,700/40 = 67.5Therefore, it will take about 67.5 forty pound bags to make one cubic yard of topsoil.

What is the average density of soil?

For purposes of civil engineering, an average soil will have a density of about 100 to 110 pounds per cubic foot. (This can vary a little depending upon how well compacted the soil is.)

What weighs more water or dirt?

There are lots of variables. Is it sandy, loamy, clay or mixture? Is it saturated with water or very dry? There is a very wide range, but I would expect it to weigh about 4-5 pounds a cubic foot, with a variability of several pounds either way. I think the weight-per-cubic-foot estimate above is low. Generally, a yard of topsoil is about one ton. Note that "a yard" in this case really means a cubic yard, which is 27 cubic feet. So, a cubic foot of topsoil is about 74 pounds, which seems to make sense inasmuch as a cubic foot of pure water is about 62 pounds. Depending on dirt of course but, approximately 75% of it's volume. Aggregates rule of thumb, the smaller the pieces the lighter the load per volume 1 yard of black dirt=+/- 1500lbs 1 yard of 8" boulders =+/- 3500lbs. boulders or compressed mass.

Weight of 40 yard dump truck Weight loaded with 40 yards of soil Weight loaded with 40 yards of concrete?

Don't know the weight of the truck alone -- google it. Concrete (wet) could be assumed to be 145 pounds per cubic foot, and there are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard. Compacted damp to dry soil (at "optimum moisture" for compacting) might run around 110 to 120 pounds per cubic foot, and loose soil would be considerably less (assuming it's dry and not saturated).

What is the standard density of hard core expressed in tonnes per cubic meter?

The density of soil varies widely depending upon how much moisture it contains and how loosely packed it is. A cubic foot of packed earth weighs about 95 pounds per cubic foot; moist earth weighs about 90 pounds per cubic foot; and excavated loam weighs about 78 pounds per cubic foot. One ton (an American or "short ton") of moist earth, therefore, occupies about 22.2 cubic feet (2000 pounds per ton divided by 90 pounds per cubic foot). That is equal to about 0.629 cubic meters. (One cubic meter is equal to about 35.3 cubic feet.)
