This largely depends on the size of the cat and the quality of food it is given. Smaller, lighter cats will naturally eat less, whereas a bigger or bulky cat will eat more.

A cat's food is also a huge factor in how much it eats: A cat will eat far more if fed a lower quality food to get the nutrition it needs, and will eat much less if fed a premium quality food that has a high meat content and no grains.

For example, an average cat weighing 4kg could eat as little as 200g (or less) on a high quality wet food with a high meat content, whereas would have to eat 300 - 400g (or more) on lower quality foods, usually found on supermarket shelves. Dry food is the same: As little as 50g for a high quality, grain free food such as Orijen and Applaws, but lower quality foods the feeding recommendation would be much, much more.

The best way to find out how much you should feed your own cat is to keep an eye on his or her weight. You can do this by weighing him once a week to see if he gains or loses weight, or feeling for any extra layers of fat over his ribs. Be sure to consult a veterinarian first in order to find out the cat's weight and health.

This really depends on the cat's weight, activity level, appetite and the quality of food being fed. Smaller, lighter cats will naturally eat less, whereas a bigger or bulky cat will eat more. That said, a cat will eat far more if fed a lower quality food to get the nutrition it needs, and less if fed a premium quality food.

That depends on the quality of food and the size, age and activity level of the cat, although measuring food out in pounds is a lot more difficult than using grams. For example, one pound is approximately 450g, which for many cats would simply be too much food to feed per day.

Kittens need much more food than adults - as much as twice or three times as much depending on their appetite. There is no one set amount that will suit every cat, so you need to feed the amount that is right for your cat. A cat fed on a high quality food will overall eat much less than a cat eating a lower quality food.

This depends on how large your cat is, how healthy, how much it weighs and how active it is. There is no "set" amount of food that will suit every cat.

How much wet food for 9 lb cat?

Most people think the canned cat food is higher in calories than the dry cat food, which is incorrect. The dry cat food is far higher in calories. The canned cat food has lots of water in it. Read the labels on both types for moisture content. You need to feed a good name brand cat food, not some cheap generic brand you find in grocery stores. For the amount to feed your cat is difficult to answer without seeing your cat in person. Is your cat fat or thin? How active is it? Never free feed your cat by keeping food down in front of it all day long. Feed twice a day. Put down only the amount that your cat will clean up in approx. 10-15 minutes. After that time, pick up any left over cat food. You could also mix a little canned food in with the basic dry food. Keep an eye on the cat's weight.

Can't afford kitten cat food at this time can i feed my 7 month old kitten with adult cat food?

Yes, of course. The nutritional needs of an adult cat and a kitten are the same; its just the amounts that should be fed to an adult or kitten that are different. For the most part, kitten and adult food from the same brand are the same, or at the very least, very similar in terms of ingredients and nutrients. Feeding a kitten adult food is absolutely fine. The biggest difference between the two is usually texture. Kitten food is usually softer in texture or has smaller pieces. Dry adult food pieces may be too big for a small kitten, but wet food can easily be mashed up in order to be eaten more easily. Premium cat food brands are suitable for both adults and kittens and do not offer a "kitten" range.
