As much as went in. Not trying to be a smarta**, but there is no info on unit size or lineset length which are the 2 most determining factors of unit charge amount.
If you want constant air movement in you home leave the fan on. If you just want the fan to cycle on with the compressor, move the switch to auto. It does not harm the fan either way.
The air conditioner dryer in your Ford Explorer, is located on the top of the air conditioner compressor. The dryer should be labeled.

The low pressure air conditioner port can be found on the top of the air conditioner compressor. The low pressure port should be labeled as such.

You don't.Suction temperature does.Suction line should be cold and sweating.That's what keeps compressor motor cool.Discharge will always be hot.

It is absolutely worth replacing the compressor. Sometimes a compressor will have faults straight from the factory, but once replaced, your A/C should serve you well for the next 10-12 years. A faulty compressor does not mean the unit should be trashed too.
The refrigerant (freon) in any air conditioner should last the life of the unit. If not, you have a leak.
