How many pounds of sugar are in a pound cake? |

Answer
It depends on how much you use of the other ingredients. The Wikibooks Cookbook says:
- ˝ pound Flour
- ˝ pound Butter
- ˝ pound Eggs (4 eggs)
- ˝ pound Sugar
- ˝ pound assorted dried fruit (Currants, Sultanas, and Raisins, with perhaps a lesser quantity of Glacé cherries).
Answer
The traditional recipe doubled the quantities above, and eliminated the fruit. The name comes from the fact that it used a pound each of sugar, flour, butter and eggs. Happy baking.
