Oxygen has a mass number of 16.00 with atomic number 8 which means there are 8 electrons and 8 protons. The number of neutrons is always equal to the mass number- the atomic number. In this case it is 16 - 8= 8.

Protons: 8

Neutrons: 8 (for isotope O16 the most common)

Electrons: 8

The number of protons would be 8 and 8 corresponding electrons, the number of neutrons will very with the isotope of that element .To say thet the most abundant isotope is oxygen-16 (99.76%) a small portion is oxygen-17(0.038%) and a negligible amount of oxygen-18(0.21%) because 0-18 is fount mainly in ice in the antarctic. All of the naturally occurring isotopes are stable.

The number of protons in any element is always the same as the atomic number, which is 8 in this case. In a neutral atom, the number of electrons will balance the protons, so it will be 8 also.

However, an oxygen ion will gain two electrons to have 10. The number of neutrons cannot be determined without knowing which particular isotope it is, though it is most likely going to be 8 neutrons since 16O comprises 99.8% of all oxygen atoms. (16 is the socalled 'mass number', being the total of proton- and neutron numbers)

See link below for more information on oxygen as well as the related question which will direct you on how to find these numbers for any element.

8 protons and 8 electrons. 99,757% of the oxygen atoms also have 8 neutrons. Some few oxygen atoms have 10, and some very few have 9.

How many protons electrons and neutrons does oxygen-2 have?

A negative 2 charge means that the oxygen is richer in two electrons. The configuration of oxygen is: 1s22s22p4 and we can conclude that it has 8 electrons. For the atom to be neutral the amount of protons must be the same. Oxygen atom has 8 neutrons. Let's add the two electrons to the eight, so the oxygen will be on negative 2 charge. To summarize, the amount of electrons - 10, protons- 8, neutrons - 8.
