12. The same as men.
Women have the same number of ribs as men do, 24, or 12 on each side of the body.
You've been reading The Bible haven't you? No, females don't have more rib bones than males because god took one of Adam's ribs to make eve.
Anyway, if you read the original, untranslated, bible you might realise that it might not have meant rib bone but 'male organ*' bone. Which explains the scar along the bottom of said organ.
*Can't say real word otherwise admin gets angry at me.
All agree that, based on medical research (somebody actually dissected cadavers and counted ribs, somebody actually looked at x-rays and counted ribs), men and women have the same number of ribs as each other. Twelve pairs of flexible, arch-like ribs form the lateral portions of the thoracic cage.
I am a woman with 13 pairs of ribs. It was discovered recently when I was having x-rays after a car accident. It is a genetic abnormality that is often accompanied by an incomplete esophagus, which I had as a child. Other than also growing a complete third set of teeth when I was 15, I have no other known health problems. My body looks completely normal.

13 ribs because they have 13 thoracic vertebrae
There are normally 24 ribs (12 pairs) in a male human rib cage and the same in a female human rib cage, so the total in a man and a woman would be 48 ribs.
They are called the intercostal muscles
Only the true ribs are attached to the sternum the false ribs (3) and the floating ribs (2) are not directly attached. The flalse ribs are attached indirectly via cartillage and the floating ribs are not attached at all.
Twelve ribs on each side usually. However some individuals can have superonumeracy ribs and have 13 on each side. Other can have less ribs, 10-11 on each side.
13 pairs including the floating ribs that do not connect to the sternum.

well, a dog has 13 pair of ribs or 26 ribs overall.
It is an addition (13th) rib that is very rarely found in humans coming of of the 1st lumbar vertebral body. Apparently gorillas have 13 sets of ribs.
Female and male animals of any species have the same number of ribs. The story in the bible about Adam's rib is a myth. Men and women have the same number of ribs, and every other bone. Gorillas and other apes are no different.
In the biblical story, it is said that God created Eve from one of Adam's ribs, not in his right ribs specifically. This story is symbolic rather than literal, representing the idea that woman is created as equal and complementary to man.

The rib cage protects the lungs, liver, and other soft organs.
