How many set to do when lifting?

It depends

on how much you are benching, but usually about 10, or least try for 5, and maintain that until you can safely get to 10.

On the lesser weights, you could try for 12-15 or more, but no more than 20, unless the particular weights are really easy for you, but again, be careful.

Everyone needs a spotter!

Extra bit

Depends on what program you are trying to follow, and whether not you are trying to build mass or maintain it.

Sets are the group of reps, so you would most likely be aiming in the vicinity of 5 sets, with the first 2 being warm up sets, and your last 3 your full load sets. Reps is what the first answer is talking about.
