Actually, Twelve million Africans were shipped to the Americas from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Of these, an estimated 645,000 were brought to what is now the United States. The largest number were shipped to Brazil. The slave population in the United States had grown to four million by the 1860 Census. Remember slavery was officially abolished in 1865. BILL THIS IS WRONG 2.7million There were more like 10-12 million, this doesn't account for the ones that were killed during capture or died on the ships THIS IS WRONG

Some 12.5 million were shipped to the New World, however only 388,000 were shipped directly to America. Other estimates put the figure nearer to 450,000. The remainder were scattered between the Caribbean and South America.
